Build Together: The art of creative collaboration (Discussion, Q&A + mingling)

Thu 20 Aug · 6:30pm · 5 Charlotte Rd

Join us for a discussion and Q&A on how great creative and written work gets built with other people — and how to find the right collaborators. Writing doesn't have to be a lonely pursuit. The best creative projects — magazines, newsletters, and products — are made by teams who build something greater than the sum of their parts. We will explore what role collaboration can play in your writing and building practices: how to find the right people, different levels of collaboration, and how you build something bigger than you could on your own. 45 minutes: Discussion 15 minutes: Q&A The rest: Time to mingle and meet potential collaborators! We'll talk about: How to find and choose the people you collaborate with How to define a creative vision for a magazine or a newsletter The real benefits of collaboration for writing and creative work Different examples of collaboration in creative contexts Speakers: Eleanor Warnock: a writer and communications expert who writes a newsletter on AI and writing. She has written for the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, and was deputy editor at Sifted. Takuro Nuruki: a strategic designer and editor. He founded studio polaris, an interdisciplinary design and publishing studio, and is a Research Fellow at Musashino Art University, Japan, and a PhD researcher at Central Saint Martins. Chihiro Shigemitsu: a Japanese screenprinter and award-winning contemporary bookbinder who has exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum and Salone Del Mobile. About The Founder-writer Collective Writers are now founders. From Emily Sundberg's "studio mindset" to Ashlee Vance's bet on independent storytelling, professional writers own and operate their own brands. At the same time, company founders increasingly see the value in being writing-first practitioners. By thinking and writing in public, they create new opportunities and cultivate a point-of-view. In the tradition of Warren Buffett and Paul Graham, by way of Julie Zhuo, founders are now writers. We want to bring these groups together to discuss the future of writing (and editing), find new collaborators, and create time to just get on with writing. This event is generously hosted by Marker.
