The Avoidable Startup Failure: Launch and Conversation

Fri 28 Aug · 1pm · Mesh Youngstorget - Mesh Community

Most technology startups fail, and we have made peace with that. This is an afternoon about the failures we do not have to accept. Anjali Bhatnagar built Tørn into one of Norway's fastest-growing marketplaces, to more than 120 million kroner across Norway and Sweden, before it went bankrupt in its fifth year. Afterwards she went looking for why, through her own company and hundreds of others, and kept finding the same pattern. Companies commit people, time and money to assumptions nobody has tested, and by the time the assumptions surface, changing course has become expensive. Her book, The Avoidable Startup Failure, is about the short window before each big commitment when those assumptions can still be tested cheaply, and how to use it. We are launching it with a conversation about why good companies fail and how to catch it earlier. On the panel: Anjali Bhatnagar, author and founder of Tørn Marit Rødevand, co-founder and CEO of Strise, a founder who pivoted and is building and growing her startup Sten-Roger Karlsen, CEO of Investinor Johan Gjesdahl, partner at Alliance VC Moderated by Lucas H. Weldeghebriel, founder of Shifter How the afternoon runs: Anjali opens and introduces the book, Lucas interviews Anjali, then the panel discussion, questions from the room, and signing to close. A limited number of signed first editions of the book will be available for purchase at the event. To be sure of a copy, reserve one in advance at anjali.no/book. Places are limited, so register to hold your spot.
