The waterways of La Rochelle & Ile de Re
Pret a Marcher in this most wonderful area on the Bay of Biscay in South West France ? Some truly spectacular walks and some amazing sightseeing too ! Plus swimming ! Lets go with the flow ! We shall be staying in charming historic La Rochelle so renowned for its fishing in the past. Please book a hotel in the coming months for 4 nights - Saturday to Wednesday - and then leave a comment to that effect on the event page. You could choose to arrive a day or two early or extend your stay beyond Wednesday. Deadline to book your hotel is 31st December. Suggested Easyjet return flights to La Rochelle from London Gatwick - Saturday 9.10am Wednesday 11.25am Flights with Ryanair are possible too. We shall be taking local buses, ferries and trains throughout the trip but may need to take the odd taxi also. Likely walks : Saturday around 4pm Coastal beach walk Angoulins sur mer to top of Plage du Roux Meet train station as from 4pm Travel by train at 4.36pm Travel back no 3 bus at 6.48pm Sunday Ile de Re coastal walk - 9 miles Plage du Martray to Plage de la Conche des Baleines on Ars-de-Re Meet train station as from 9.30am Travel by bus no 151 at 10am or 10.20am Bring your swimming costume ! Monday Coastal walk Les Bas Pampin to Esnandes Travel by bus no 10 at 10.30am Meet Place de Verdun as from 10am Tuesday Ile de Rey 9 to 10 miles coastal walk Plage du Martray / St Martin / La Flotte Meet train station as from 9.30am Travel by bus no 151 at 10am or at 10.20am Bring your swimming costume Meetup fee £40 payable in advance by bank transfer ( season ticket holders : £30 ) You should be able to walk 2.5 miles per hour and have adequate and appropriate insurance for this type of activity Walking and hiking in the Great Outdoors presents certain low level risks and by rsvping to this trip you agree to undertake such risks You must stay with the group at all times during the walk as it puts too much pressure on the group if people wander off We shall be dining at local cafes and dinners but there shall be no group dinners.
