Lincoln Square Tour, Remembering San Juan Hill & and Sunset Watch Afterparty

Note that this tour is rescheduled from Sunday, July 26th to the following Sunday, August 2nd due to a personal conflict. Note the start time is 5:00pm. Everyone who registered for that date maintains their spot. Apologies if the new date doesn't work for you. Downside is no music at the end of the tour. Upside is less crowds at Pier I in Riverside Park and easier to nail down umbrella to enjoy the evening, food and drink after the tour (optional). RSVP's opened on Sunday, July 12th at 8:00pm. After the tour ends feel free to hangout for a meal or drink at the Pier I Cafe and watch the sunset. Food and beverages available for purchase (credit cards accepted) at the Pier 1 Cafe in Riverside Park: Check out menus here: https://www.piericafe.com/ About Lincoln Square: Spanning from 60th Street to 70th Streets, this sprawling neighborhood between Central Park and the Hudson River has quite an array of environments and unique buildings from elegant pre-war architecture to what is essentially a new neighborhood on Riverside Boulevard. We'll also learn about the San Juan Hill neighborhood that pre-dated Lincoln Center (built in the 1960s), which was a diverse African-American and Latinx community, and was largely the inspiration for the musical "West Side Story." The neighborhood was a legendary hotbed of musical innovation. —which contributed to everything from stride piano and bebop to Afro-Cuban jazz, mambo, and bomba—greatlyly informing Leonard Bernstein and Steven Sondheim's iconic, genre-blending musical. Other stops include the "Ghostbuster's Building," on Central Park West, the eclectic West Side YMCA building, and a really cool street that was one of NYC's first artist's colony in the early 1900s. Meeting place is the sitting areas within Columbus Circle by the statue. Restrooms available at the Deutsche Bank Center (take the escalator up to the 2nd floor from the main lobby). Please take care of business before the walk. There will also be restrooms at the end of the tour at Pier 1 in Riverside Park.
