Tim’s lost river walks : the new river

A brand new lost river walk with Tim. This is the New River. But it’s a bit of a misnomer as it’s not a river nor is it new! Instead it was built over 400 years ago to supply fresh water to Londoners from the unpolluted springs of Hertfordshire In this walk we’ll track the New River to its ancient end in Islington through leafy squares from Canonbury station. At the end there is London’s newest museum: the Quentin Blake museum of illustration which utilises the buildings from which Londoners received their fresh water 400 years ago. It’s an extraordinary story of human ingenuity which continues to be relevant as the New River still supplies London with 10% of its fresh water today. We meet outside Canonbury station to start walking at 11 am. There are no toilet facilities at the station but there is an open air cafe just to the left of the exit. I’ll be there from 10.45 so we will start walking at 11 sharp. We’ll stop for a break if necessary half way down the route. Cost is £12 payable through card, cash or PayPal.
