Once an industrial area of the old port lands, South Core has become a new and exciting destination for residents and tourists alike. With walking paths adjacent and Sugar Beach on the waterfront, South Core is the place to stroll and learn about Toronto's history. This tour should be called "Back to the 50's." But it also has a rather interesting history. Let's start with the Redpath Sugar complex which opened in 1958. Adjacent to Sugar Beach, several port facilities were built including the Queen Elizabeth Terminals for unloading produce entering Canada. With the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway, Toronto built several more terminals which have been converted to residences. Grab a coffee and relax in a most interesting part of Toronto. This walk is for all fitness levels. The meeting place for our walking adventure is the northwest corner of Sugar Beach on Queen's Quay East east at Lower Jarvis Street. See you there! We will end at Cherry Street amid the new development there with the widening of the Don River, and all that glorious parkland! Let's explore, on the perfect summer walk!
