Serralves, a walk in the park
Serralves, one of Portugal's most iconic cultural institutions, is renowned for its world-class exhibitions, unfolding in the museum designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Álvaro Siza. But the museum is only part of the experience. Its meticulously designed park, dotted with exceptional works of art, is a masterpiece in its own right and well worth a visit. And since you're based in Porto, why not do it on Sunday, August 2nd, the first Sunday of the month, when admission to Serralves is free for residents? Welcome to our Architectours special: A walk in the park, where we'll explore the Serralves estate, uncover the curious history of the property and the museum, discover its architecture and get to know one of Portugal's finest collections of contemporary outdoor sculpture. We'll see how art, architecture and nature have been woven together to create a unique experience. The museum building is not the only architectural highlight on the estate. As we stroll through the park, we'll pass by the elegant Art Deco Villa, the Cinema House and the Treetop Walk, tracing the evolution of Serralves from a private family estate to one of Portugal's leading cultural institutions. Along our stroll, we'll encounter works by world-renowned artists such as Richard Serra, Claes Oldenburg, Olafur Eliasson or Anish Kapoor. We'll make sure to explore the works of some remarkable Portuguese artists as well. And we'll sprinkle in a few curious, surprising and occasionally delicious stories from the art world!
