🍺 Raising the Bar 3 — Go Weast 🚋

We're heading into the post-industrial, unpolished, genuinely local Amsterdam that most visitors never see. Eight stops, one long day, and some of the best beer in the city. 🍻 For this chapter of Raising the Bar, I've built a route through Amsterdam Oost — an area that was docks, factories and working-class housing not so long ago, and that now hides some of the most interesting drinking in town. No tourist traps, no chains, no places you'll find on the front page of a guidebook. 🍺 The crawl Eight stops, running in a straight line east to west — no doubling back, no wasted steps, roughly 7 km over the course of the day. 😏 I'm keeping the venues a surprise (half the fun is not knowing where we're headed next), but here's the shape of it: We'll start with lunch in a resurrected historic brewery, then find a hidden bar with no signage inside a park (you'd never find it on your own — that's rather the point 🤫). From there we work our way back toward the centre: a tiny, fiercely local corner bar, a brewery beneath a windmill, a canal-side terrace, and finally a pair of centuries-old brown cafés where the sailors used to drink. 🌙 Along the way: excellent Dutch craft, proper old-school institutions, and a lot of good conversation. 🍽️ Optional dinner: for anyone still standing at the end, we'll finish with an optional Indonesian dinner nearby (around 20:45). Simple: with only 12 seats and a lunch reservation to hold, I need to know who's actually coming. Meetup RSVPs are famously optimistic 😅 — this way, everyone who books really shows up, and nobody loses their place to a no-show. You get the money straight back on the day or the day after.
