Fourth Annual Casualsâ Beer Mile
What a year it has been so far! Many of you clocked PBs in the Barcelona Marathon and Half Marathon not to mention smashing 10Ks left, right and centre. Weâve had a World Cup, a Papal visit, and festival season is just getting going. But 2026 wouldnât be complete without the REAL highlight of the sporting / boozing calendar: the Barcelona Casual Runnersâ Annual Beer Mile! Itâs also a chance to celebrate my (Johnâs) birthday in time-honoured fashion. For those of you who didnât make it to previous editions, the rules are simple. The race consists of four beers (standard 330ml can) plus 1 mile / 1.6km as follows: Drink one beer then run 400m (repeat x4). Official rules can be found here: https://www.beermile.com/about/rules/1 The beer has to be at least 5% abv (although non-drinkers will be permitted to use alcohol free beer e.g. Freedamm, 0.0% etc). And youâre not allowed to pour it into a glass or pierce the can or do any other funny stuff. Hmmm. And if you vomit, you have to do an extra 400m (really, read the rules). Weâll meet behind the W Hotel on Sunday 9 August at 10:30am. Weâll do a pre-race briefing, official rule-reading by the marshals etc. Race will begin at 11am. Afterwards weâll do the winnersâ presentation (if I can find some medals in the Chinese bazaarâŚ). What youâll need: 4 cans of beer, running shoes, and a strong constitution. As itâs kinda my birthday, weâll be heading to a bar / restaurant close by afterwards (venue TBC but looking at a terrace around Barceloneta) and drinks at the bar will be on me, John (in case you havenât had enough).
