Meet the Fractal Organisation
Diagnosing Your System's Variety in the AI Era Why do scaling frameworks like SAFe, LeSS, and Nexus so often stall as organisations grow? The answer lies in variety, the sheer complexity every organisation must absorb to stay viable, and today AI is driving much of that surge. This session introduces the Fractal Organisation, an idea from cybernetics and complexity theory. It builds on what Agile has already got right (Scrum's small, self-organising teams) and points toward a genuinely viable way forward for Scaled Agility. To achieve this, the Fractal Organisation mimics nature's scaling laws by repeating the same self-regulating structure at every scale, from squad to enterprise. Embedded within this organisation, AI stops being just another source of disturbance and becomes an internal amplifier of variety, giving organisations the capacity to match the complexity they face.
