This is not a traditional museum visit. 101 Spring Street is a preserved five-story cast-iron building in the heart of SoHo, where Donald Judd lived, worked, collected, designed, and permanently installed art, furniture, and objects in relation to the architecture of the building itself. It is one of New York City’s most fascinating hidden cultural spaces — part artist’s home, part studio, part architectural landmark, and part living installation. 🎨 Who Was Donald Judd? Donald Judd was one of the most important American artists of the 20th century and a central figure in the development of Minimalist art, although he resisted being confined by that label. His work transformed how people think about art, space, form, proportion, material, light, and environment. At 101 Spring Street, Judd created something extraordinary: a building where art, architecture, furniture, and daily life were carefully arranged as a complete visual and spatial experience. Rather than simply hanging art on walls, Judd treated the entire building as an environment. 🏛️ About 101 Spring Street Donald Judd purchased 101 Spring Street in 1968, when SoHo was still an industrial neighborhood filled with cast-iron buildings, lofts, and artists’ spaces. The building became his New York residence and studio, and it remains one of the most important preserved artists’ spaces in the city. During our visit, we will move through the building floor by floor, seeing how Judd arranged art, furniture, architecture, and objects in carefully considered relationships. This is a rare opportunity to experience the actual environment Judd created, rather than seeing his work removed from context in a conventional gallery or museum. 🖼️ What We Will Experience Our private guided visit will include: ✨ Donald Judd’s historic SoHo home and studio ✨ Five floors of art, design, architecture, and living space ✨ A preserved cast-iron building in the heart of SoHo ✨ Works, furniture, and objects installed in relation to the building ✨ A private group format reserved for our Social Club ✨ Two guides for our group, allowing for a more intimate visit The visit offers a unique look at the relationship between art and environment, and how an artist can shape an entire building into a complete creative world. 👥 Private Group Format This will be a private guided visit for our Social Club. Because of the size and nature of the building, our group will be divided into two smaller groups, each with its own guide. Both groups will begin at the same time and rotate through the building. This allows us to experience the space properly while keeping the visit intimate and manageable. 💵 Cost and Pricing The cost for this event is: $35 Per Member Please note that this is a private group visit, not the regular public guided visit. The public guided visit is priced slightly lower, but public visits are limited to a very small number of participants and are not arranged exclusively for our group. Our private visit allows our Social Club to attend together, with two guides, a reserved group time, and no outside public visitors included in our tour. The actual private group cost quoted to us is $40 per person, but I am offering this event to members at $35 per person. As with all paid Social Club events, payments are nonrefundable unless the event itself is canceled. ⏰ Event Schedule 12:15 PM — Meet outside 101 Spring Street 12:30 PM — Private guided visit begins 12:30 PM – 1:45 PM — Guided visit through the building 1:45 PM – 2:00 PM — Wrap-up and departure The Foundation reserves up to 90 minutes for the visit. ⚠️ Important Accessibility Note This visit involves moving through a five-story historic building. The guided visit includes walking up several flights of stairs, one floor at a time, with time spent on each floor before moving to the next level. An elevator is available for accessibility if needed, but members should be aware that this is a historic building and the visit involves vertical movement through the space.
