Make New Friends: Greek Culture, The Parthenon Sculptures exhibition & Picnic

Sun 2 Aug · 11am · Russell Square

Make New Friends | Greek Day in London Sunday 2nd August If you’re looking to meet new people, make new friends and spend a relaxed Sunday with good company, we’d love to have you join us. Each month we choose a different country to explore together. This month it’s Greece. The aim is to spark curiosity, discover something new and make meaningful connections with one another. There are no tour guides or cultural experts here. Everyone is welcome to contribute their own experiences, thoughts or anything they’ve discovered about Greece. The Plan 12:00 pm – Russell Square Gardens We’ll meet for a relaxed welcome, get to know one another and share a simple Greek concept before making our way to the British Museum together. 12:30 pm – The British Museum We’ll explore the Ancient Greece galleries together, including the famous Parthenon sculptures. We’ll take our time, wander through the galleries and stop whenever something catches our attention. 2:00pm – Walk to Regent’s Park from the museum, we’ll enjoy a gentle 20 minute walk through central London before finding a lovely spot in Regent’s Park (near Queen Mary’s Rose Garden). We’ll spend the afternoon relaxing over our picnic, getting to know one another and soaking up the atmosphere. Every Sunday throughout the summer, Regent’s Park hosts free live music performances, so we’ll have a soundtrack to our afternoon while we eat, chat and enjoy the park together. The Picnic Please bring your own food and drink. If you’d like to bring a little taste of Greece, even better. Olives, feta, pitta, spanakopita, tzatziki or anything else you enjoy. If you’d like to share with others, that’s lovely, but please make sure you also bring enough for yourself. We’d also love everyone to bring something they know or love about Greece. It could be: A favourite place A holiday memory A traditional Greek dish A Greek word or saying A book, film or piece of music Or simply something interesting you’d like to share. There’s absolutely no pressure to contribute, but when people do, those conversations often become some of the favourite moments of the day. The British Museum and Regent’s Park are both free to visit. A Few Things to Know As with all our events, everyone attends at their own discretion and is responsible for their own personal safety, belongings and wellbeing throughout the day.
