Dr Joycelyn Longdon on 'Justice-led Conservation Technology' — designing biodiversity monitoring with forest communities in Ghana, using machine-learning bioacoustics to turn recorded sound into ecological data, and what changes when the people living in the forest shape the tooling rather than receive it.
One hour, 16:00 to 17:00, at Inspace on Crichton Street, part of the Design Informatics seminar series run by Edinburgh College of Art. Longdon is an environmental justice researcher, writer and technologist, and the work discussed comes out of her PhD research at the University of Cambridge. No price is listed on the registration page.
Why go: a concrete case of applied machine learning where the hard problems are participatory design and data ownership rather than model performance. Best for ML practitioners, designers and anyone building in climate or environmental tech.
