World Cleanup Day at the Waterfront in Toronto

Harbourfront Centre is a place where people from across Toronto come together for arts, culture, learning and recreation. On World Cleanup Day, we’re coming together for something just as important: caring for the waterfront we share. A Greener Future is proud to return to Harbourfront Centre for the September UNSMOKE Butt Blitz. Join us as we remove cigarette litter from the surrounding waterfront and turn a global day of action into a visible local impact. We encourage you to come to collect as little or as many butts as you'd like - every piece makes a difference. Every cigarette butt collected will count toward our September goal of removing one million butts across Canada. Why Join Us? This September we’re turning trash into treasure – one butt at a time. A single cigarette butt filter contains thousands of plastic fibres that pollute our environment when littered. By joining a cleanup, you’ll not only be preventing the contamination of local ecosystems and waterways, but you’ll be helping us turn this common piece of trash into something useful for our communities. The filters will be recycled into plastic lumber through TerraCycle to build a park bench for one of our communities. All cleanup supplies will be provided, however, we also encourage anyone that would like to bring their own reusable gloves and collection container. Remember to wear closed-toe shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, and bring a reusable water bottle. Ready to join the Blitz? Register for the event on our website!
