Beethoven & Farrenc

Tafelmusik’s season opening concerts are devoted to masterpieces by two mavericks of their era. The first and only female professor at the Paris Conservatory in the 19th century, Louise Farrenc was a groundbreaker whose Symphony no. 3 premiered to critical acclaim in 1849 alongside Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony no. 5. Taking our cue from history, we pair Farrenc with Beethoven once more—this time with his revered Symphony no. 7, famed for its haunting Allegretto, heard everywhere from the fall of the Berlin Wall to films like The King’s Speech and Westworld. Making his Tafelmusik debut is the celebrated conductor Jakob Lehmann, known for “revelatory conducting” (Opera Today) that “vigorously shakes up our listening habits” (Classica).
