DIGITAL STORYTELLING AND ARCHIVING TIBETAN YOUTH @ GALLERY 1313 Sept. 16-27 1313 Queen St. West Gallery 1313 is pleased to host this exhibition especially in Parkdale with its Tibetan Community His exhibition showcases works that were created by Tibetan youth who participated in “Digital Storytelling and Archiving,” a 2-month long summer arts intensive created by Made in Exile, a community arts organization based in Toronto, dedicated to supporting Tibetan youth navigating exilehood. Dru is the Tibetan word for seed. Our hope is this program has planted the seeds for a new generation of youth born in exile to practice agency in their own documentation and storytelling. Works in this exhibition were created by Tenzin Desal Amji, Jordhen Nyanang, Lakedhen Nyanang, Tenzing Yengsel, Tenzin Norgyal, Tenzin Migmar, Tenzin Tsungmey, and Tsepella. The variety of media employed by the program participants reflects the various foundational workshops, led by local Toronto artists,that helped to explore their artistic visions and strengthen their storytelling abilities. Tenzin Desal Amji’s photo series, Jordhen Nyanang’s film, Lakedhen Nyanang’s documentary, Tenzin Yengsel’s video, Tenzin Norgyal’s photo collage, Tenzin Migmar’s photo series, Tenzin Tsungmey’s self portrait and Tsepella’s short documentary all explore various Tibetan experiences in exile, from the sublime to the quotidian, and the deeply personal to the universal.
