The House of Bernarda Alba

The play is that the house is not merely a home; it is a prison built by fear, honour and social expectations. The play remains relevant because women still face restrictions imposed in the name of family honour, tradition and social reputation. It explores the conflict between individual freedom and society's expectations. The house is not merely a building; it is a system of control that continues to exist wherever fear and social judgement suppress freedom.

Bernarda's house still exists today—not necessarily behind white walls, but wherever fear, honour and social judgement deny people the freedom to live their own lives.
