By Thomas Norton and Thomas Sackville.
The Preston Society presents The Tragedy of Gorboduc: A rehearsed reading in Trinity Hall Chapel
An aeging king divides his kingdom between two sons, and his realm falls apart. One brother kills the other, a mother takes revenge on her own child and the people rise against the crown. Britain is without an heir and civil war looms...
Written in 1561 by Thomas Norton and Thomas Sackville, Gorboduc is the first English tragedy written in Blank verse, anticipating Marlowe and Shakespeare. It has rarely been heard since, but a new abridged version by Professor Tony Briggs (who will introduce the play) brings it back to life!
