Galway-born
saxophonist Riley Stone-Lonergan builds his music around one thing:
improvisation. It’s what drew him to jazz in the first place, and
it’s still what drives him, both playing it himself and listening
to others do it.
He’s perhaps best
known as one third of QOW Trio, alongside bassist Eddie Myer and
British jazz legend Spike Wells, a drummer who’s shared stages with
Dexter Gordon, Roland Kirk, Bobby Wellins and Tubby Hayes. QOW Trio
brings together players from different generations, all rooted in
the tradition but pushing at what a sax-bass-drums lineup can do.
Their third album, The Rule of Three, came out on
Whirlwind Records in January 2026, drawing comparisons to Rollins
for its intense, bluesy improvisation.
At Ladbroke Hall,
Riley digs into a set of jazz standards with Will Barry, Will Sach
and Will Cleasby, three musicians he rates highly, for a night
built on spontaneity and serious chops.
