Daniel Collins and Quincy Bryant are two young African-American men from rural Hale County, Alabama. Over the course of five years, Collins attends college in search of opportunity, and Bryant becomes a father to an energetic son. While working as a teacher and basketball coach in Alabama, RaMell Ross filmed the local community over the course of five years. A profound humanism lies at the heart of this impressionistic, politically evocative work—a welcome portrait of the Black American South, nominated for the Oscars®.
