Modern Wuxia: To Turn, To Be

Hong Kong Repertory Theatre presents Modern Wuxia: To Turn, To Be , a story set in a world where the martial arts novelist’s realm may have faded, but the neon lights of our reality linger. At age 53, the protagonist quits his job and travels to Songshan to study martial arts for three years. Returning with physical skills entirely out of sync with modern times, he attempts to exercise chivalry in a concrete jungle. Using chips as darts and assembling cardboard into a couch, this loner braves jeers and rejection in pursuit of his ideal. In the real world, there are no villains to vanquish, only life’s bone-crushing pressures. Yet he stubbornly resists them all, vowing to redefine what ‘chivalry’ means in our material, mundane world.
