Exploring how C. difficile toxins drive infection
Infections by the bacterium C. difficile are a major cause of antibiotic associated diarrhea. We recently discovered that C. difficile causes neurogenic inflammation, through intoxication of neurons and pericytes. Our lab continues to define how C. difficile toxins drive a change in intestinal homeostasis. Our ongoing studies indicate that neurogenic inflammation that promotes the growth of C. difficile, and other pathogens within the intestine.
