You are invited to a celebration and discussion of Shannon Kelley’s book on trees in the plays of William Shakespeare: “Tree-Becoming: Gender, Race, and Trauma on Shakespeare’s Stage.” Dr. Kelley will talk about the importance of cypress, laurel, balsam, balm, myrrh, willow, and pine trees as seen in four major plays, including Othello, King Lear, and The Tempest. A spirited question and answer session to follow.
Light refreshments provided with generous support from The Humanities Institute, the English Department, Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, Environmental Studies, and Black Studies.
Please join us on Monday, October 26 at 5:00pm in the Kelley Center Presentation Room.
