Embracing a spectrum of expression and form, Jordan Roth's ongoing engagement with theater arts and fashion has evolved into a performance-based practice incorporating acting and the visual arts, which Roth has termed "Narrative Fashion Performance." From movement to meditation on perception, Roth’s practice situates the body as a living vessel for fashion, art history and ritual and traces connections across traditions, from couture ateliers and classical sculpture to painting and performance. Join Roth and Professor Tavia Nyong’o for the next installment of our signature series, Dancing About Architecture, where the two will discuss Roth’s evolving performance practice and their new book, Radical Acts of Unrelenting Beauty.
Dancing About Architecture is a series that brings together luminary artists in conversation to illuminate practice, research, and development that take place across disciplines. “The title, Dancing About Architecture, is inspired by the quote, 'Writing about music is like dancing about architecture.' While the quote when first uttered was meant to point out the difficulty (and perhaps futility) of writing about music (one must experience it), the truth is that discourse between disciplines is always happening. Nothing is created in a vacuum.” says Associate Artistic Director of Yale Schwarzman Center, Jennifer Harrison Newman.
