Downloads an .ics file · All day · Google Calendar
Jesse Howard draws inspiration from his experiences growing up in Chicago. He regularly returns to his former neighborhood and other areas of the city to document the lives of everyday people. Through his work, Howard seeks to tell the stories of African Americans whose contributions and achievements have often been overlooked in history. His drawings focus on marginalized and disenfranchised individuals, bringing visibility to those too often forgotten. This body of work reflects the diversity, resilience, and complexity of the African American community, portraying stories of hope and aspiration despite systemic inequities. Howard’s art also highlights the contrast between mainstream portrayals of African Americans and the realities of racism that continue to shape everyday life.
The Public Reception takes place on Thursday, Feburary 4, 5 – 8 p.m.
Viewings take place from Feburary 4- March 26, during regular museum hours.
