Library Skills Workshops: From Information to Your Own Voice: How Do I Become Part of a Scholarly Conversation?

Research is more than finding and summarizing information—it is an opportunity to ask questions, explore ideas, and contribute your own perspective. In this workshop, we’ll explore how students can move from being consumers of information to active participants in scholarly conversations. We’ll discuss why every perspective matters, how information literacy supports lifelong learning, and how students can connect their curiosity and interests with research opportunities at KU.
Students will leave with the ability to:
Recognize the value of their own questions, experiences, and perspectives in the research process
Understand how scholars build on existing conversations and contribute new ideas
Connect information literacy skills to lifelong learning and informed decision-making
Identify ways to engage with research opportunities and mentorship at KU
See themselves as contributors to knowledge—not just users of information
