Trip Overview
Whether you're gearing up for your first backpacking trip or just looking for a weekend in the mountains, this trip is a great chance to explore some of East Tennessee's best backcountry. We'll spend the weekend hiking through scenic forests, past waterfalls, and along mountain ridges, covering 6–9 miles each day on moderate terrain with manageable elevation gain.
This trip is designed to be approachable for beginners while still offering a rewarding weekend for more experienced backpackers. If you're new to backpacking, our trip leaders will help you learn the basics, from packing your backpack to setting up camp. If you've been backpacking before, you'll enjoy a laid-back weekend with great trails and good company.
Before we head out, we'll hold a mandatory pre-trip meeting during the week to cover logistics, answer questions, and distribute any gear you need. On Saturday morning, we'll meet at the Outdoor Center, pack our gear, load into vans, and drive to the trailhead. From there, we'll hike into the backcountry, set up camp, cook dinner together, and spend the night under the stars. On Sunday, we'll pack up camp, hike back out, and return to campus by the evening—hopefully a little tired, a little dirtier, and glad we spent the weekend outside
