The 1947 Partition of British India triggered one of the largest forced migrations in modern history, uprooting millions and transforming communities across the subcontinent. Women experienced this upheaval in profoundly gendered ways, facing abduction, sexual violence, displacement and the loss of family and home. This conversation explores women’s experiences of Partition and the memories carried across generations, examining how recovering often-silenced histories can deepen our understanding of violence, survival, displacement and the enduring human consequences of Partition.
This event is presented as part of the programming for the exhibition Project Dastaan, currently on view in the Green School Gallery (SIPA I, Room 110).
