CAS Lecture Series - Growing Food, Eating Medicine: Agricultural Festivals, Spiritual Ecology, and the Columbian Exchange in Western Africa

Speaker: Ishmael Annang (Mount Holyoke College) Ishmael Annang is an assistant professor of history at Mount Holyoke College where he teaches courses in the related fields of African history, environmental history, and Atlantic history. His current project studies the creative work of Africans--humans and nonhumans--in resolving the ecological and socio-political impacts of the Columbian Exchange in the Gold Coast (Ghana). His research has appeared in the Journal of West African History, and is also forthcoming in History in Africa.
