The Center for Law, Health & Society at Georgia State University College of Law is launching an exciting new initiative coming this year – a Health Law and Constitutional Moot Court Competition! This new competition is a collaboration among the Center for Law, Health & Society, the new Emmet J. Bondurant Center for Constitutional Law, Practice and Democracy and Moot Court.
Law schools across the country can regsiter teams for this event. Teams of 2-3 law students will analyze constitutional law issues as they arise in the regulation, delivery, financing, and governance of health care, public health and bioethics, through a brief and oral arguments.
This competition is also interdisciplinary and intended to encourage law students to work with 2-3 students in health-related professions, such as at schools of public health, medicine, health administration or nursing, etc. to submit an amicus brief representing the impact of the case on health outcomes and health equity.
A total of up to $5000 will be awarded for Best Written Brief, Best Oral Advocate, Best Amicus Brief, and Best Runner Up and Best Overall. These awards are funded through a generous donation from the family and friends of the late Sal Lucido, an alumnus of Georgia State Law who worked in policy and leadership for several decades at the CDC.
The first year of this competition will be a pilot, open to a limited number of teams. More information and registration will be available soon.
