Join SJSU Votes, the SJSU Institute for Public Affairs and Civic Engagement (IPACE), Ready for Tuesday, the King Library, the AI Center for Civic and Social Good, and the ASU Mechanics of Democracy Laboratory for an AI and Elections workshop on AI and Election Security Day, during National Voter Education Week. Workshop description:

How might AI help address real challenges in elections?

This hands-on co-design workshop invites participants to explore that question together. We will begin by laying the landscape of AI + elections, including emerging opportunities, challenges, and considerations for responsible use.

Then, participants will move into teams to identify a challenge within elections and design an AI-powered tool or solution to address it. No technical or coding experience is required. The focus is on understanding the problem, imagining what AI could meaningfully contribute, and considering the people, values, risks, and responsibilities that should shape the design.

Teams will pitch their ideas, and participants will vote on the strongest concept.

Along the way, we will put AI literacy into practice by asking critical questions about when AI is useful, when it is not, what responsible AI use requires, and how we can design technology that supports trustworthy and accessible elections.
