Harvey 101: Legal AI for Upper-Level Students

Wednesday, October 21, 2026 12:00–12:50 PM

Lewis 905 and Online

For 2Ls, 3Ls and 4Ls only

Overview

Harvey is an AI platform used by law firms and legal teams around the world, and DePaul Law students have free access through their DePaul email. This practical, hands-on session will introduce you to the platform and show you how to use it effectively and responsibly.

During the session, Harvey will cover:

· Getting started: Logging in, navigating the platform, and using the Assistant for research, drafting, and analysis

· Working with your own documents: Uploading materials to Vault, querying across them and building review tables to compare cases or contracts

· Prompting effectively: Framing strong requests, using the prompt-improvement tool and checking Harvey’s cited sources so you can verify its responses

· Using AI responsibly as a law student: Understanding where Harvey can support your coursework, what to watch for, and why you remain responsible for the work you submit

· Preparing for legal practice: How law firms are using AI, the skills students should begin developing, and how to discuss your experience with legal AI in interviews

Bring your laptop if you’d like to follow along. Hands-on practice is one of the fastest ways to become comfortable with the platform.

Time will also be reserved at the end for questions, including those on how AI skills may translate to internships, summer positions and legal practice.
