50 years of exoplanet science: 1995 to 2045. From Hot Jupiters to Habitable Earths.
Featuring Guest Lecturer, Dr. Charles Beichman
"The study of planets beyond our solar system has grown from a niche area pioneered by a few astronomers to a major field within modern astrophysics. More than 6000 exoplanets have now been discovered, including gas giants like Jupiter and Saturn, to rocky planets like our own Earth. I will focus on current results from the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), the promise of the soon-to-be-launched Roman Space Telescope and the ambitious goal of the Habitable Worlds Observatory, currently under study by NASA, to detect the presence of life itself on nearby Earth analogs."
