SGA & MEChA close out Raza Heritage Month with a screening of Walkout, along with some churros.

Time may shift slightly depending on sunset.

MEChA (Movimiento Estudiantil Chican@/x de Aztlan) Club invites our MSJC community to join us for Raza en Movimiento, a celebration of culture, history, community, and resistance during Raza Heritage Month (Otherwise known as Hispanic Heritage Month- Sept 15th-Oct 15th).

So, what do we mean by Raza?
Historically, for MEChA, Raza is a term of cultural identity, pride, solidarity, and community rooted in the histories and movements of Mexican American and Chican@/x communities. At the same time, it has been used more broadly to recognize and build solidarity among people of Latin@/x heritage, including Mexican, Central American, South American, Caribbean, Indigenous, Afro-Latin@/x, and other Latin American backgrounds. It is not simply another demographic label. For many, Raza reflects a shared connection to culture, history, community, and collective struggles for educational and social justice.

We also recognize that students may identify in many different ways- including Chican@/x, Mexican American, Latin@/x, Indigenous, or other identities, and EVERYONE is welcome at our events.

We'd love your help in sharing the attached flyer with your students and encourage them to participate. We are also in talks with other groups on campus to collaborate and appreciate our intersectionalities at MSJC this month and throughout the year! Whether students, come to learn, celebrate, connect with community, or simply enjoy some music, food, "cotorreo", there is a place for them at Raza en Movimiento!
