Sanford Center for Aging Free Balance Assessments & Community Resources

Sanford Center for Aging, a local nonprofit dedicated to enhancing the lives of older adults, is hosting a free event, "Stay Steady: Balance and Mobility Screenings," to be held on Tuesday, Sept. 22 at the Sparks Library. This event is designed to promote awareness and education about balance and mobility, crucial aspects of health and wellness as we age. These assessments, conducted by trained professionals, will provide personalized feedback and recommendations for improving balance and stability. Participants are encouraged to schedule 15-minute assessments with the wellness team. The "Stay Steady" event aims to empower older adults with the knowledge and tools to maintain and improve their balance and mobility, reduce the risk of falls and enhance overall quality of life. The event will include blood pressure checks and other community resources. The event will feature a free balance assessment 1 – 4 p.m. featuring trained staff from Sanford Center for Aging: Leslie Baker, Pharm.D., director of geriatric pharmacy servicesHannah Linden, MPH, director of health and wellnessMichael Gonzalez, program coordinator of health and wellnessCourtney Pennacchio, MS, program coordinator of health and wellnessFree consultations from two trained physical therapists from the University of Nevada, Reno School of Public Health will also be available: Jennifer Nash, PT, DPT, NCS, GCS, clinical associate professor Jessica Yurtinus, PT, DPT, GCS, clinical assistant professor and director of clinical education at the Doctor of Physical Therapy ProgramThe event is free and open to the public.
