Who Is Nguni? A Screening of “isilulu”

South African film director Nomawonga Khumalo, whose Sundance-selected short Five Tiger (2020) announced a bold new voice in the country’s cinema, presents a screening of isilulu. Khumalo is joined in conversation by curator James Green to consider how the filmmaker chose to tell Nguni history, as well as what Nguni identity means in South Africa today, at a time of cultural revival but also rising xenophobia.
