Please join Yale Chemistry for the Jerome A. Berson Lecture in organic chemistry with Prof. Marisa C. Kozlowski, Ponzy Lu Endowed Professor of Chemistry at University of Pennsylvania (UPenn).
Title: TBA
The central theme of research in the Kozlowski laboratory is the rational design of new methods and catalysts for use in organic synthesis. As well as using traditional screening and development approaches, they employ several novel computational tools for the discovery and optimization of new reagents and catalysts. These new synthetic methods comprise the key steps in their total synthesis strategies to a variety of important pharmaceutical agents and natural products. Bio: Marisa Kozlowski completed undergraduate studies at Cornell University and graduate studies at the University of California at Berkeley. After a National Science Foundation fellowship at Harvard University, she joined the faculty at the University of Pennsylvania and currently is the inaugural holder of the Lu Professor of Chemistry endowed by Roy and Diana Vagelos. She is also Associate Dean of the Natural Sciences. The major focus of Professor Kozlowski's research is the development of new catalytic methods for efficient organic synthesis using computation and high throughout screening. Professor Kozlowski's contributions have been recognized by a Sloan Research Fellowship, the Philadelphia Organic Chemists’ Club Award, the Philadelphia ACS Section Award, a ACS Cope Scholar Award, and and the Leete Award. She has been elected as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Chemical Society. For innovations in teaching and mentoring, she has received the Kahn Award for Distinguished Teaching, the Charles Ludwig Distinguished Teaching Award, the Dennis DeTurck Award for Innovation in Teaching, and the Provost Award for PhD Teaching and Mentoring. In addition to over 210 independent publications, Professor Kozlowski coauthored with Professor Patrick Walsh the book “Fundamentals of Asymmetric Catalysis", available from University Science Books. She is currently Editor-In-Chief of Organic Letters.
Hosted by Prof. Jonathan Ellman.
