This event brings Migrant Justice / Justicia Migrante back to URI to speak with students and faculty about its work organizing migrant dairy workers across the Northeast. Led by immigrant farmworkers, Migrant Justice builds collective power around labor rights, economic justice, and human dignity. Its Milk with Dignity program has become an important worker-driven model for improving wages, housing, workplace safety, and protections against discrimination and retaliation. We have repeatedly showcased Migrant Justice’s work for our faculty and students, but the conversation is especially timely today. In Rhode Island, where roughly 20% of the population identifies as Latino, the event highlights the essential role immigrant communities play in New England’s economy, culture, and civic life.
