Spend a bit of Family and Friends Weekend with the Office of Sustainability. SUNY Oswego, the Office of Sustainability, and Rice Creek Field Station, in partnership with the Atlantic States Legal Foundation and funded by the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI), are implementing a multi-site agroforestry project. The initiative includes the planting of approximately 250 fruit-bearing and medicinal trees and shrubs across SUNY Oswego’s campus.
These plantings are designed to support biodiversity, local food access, and ecosystem resilience, while also improving stormwater management and contributing to the expansion of the campus’ Centennial Arboretum. In addition to its ecological goals, the project engages students and community members in hands-on sustainability education, building momentum toward campus-wide permaculture practices.
Activities will include: Tree Planting, mulching, watering, fencing, and active discussions about the creation of SUNY Oswego's food forest.
Important to note: All volunteers are expected to wear appropriate clothing as we will be using landscaping tools and planting equipment. Please wear proper footwear. No open-toed shoes.
All tools and gloves will be provided for volunteers.
Please indicate which session you plan on attending on the Google Form. https://forms.gle/5fVAiRNwmnEGfy3W9 10 am to 1 pm or 2 to 5 pm.
