"Don't Look Back: Greek Myth, Modern Art, and How We Teach the Humanities"

This lecture will discuss two sculptures in which Greek myth is used to reflect upon race and our relationships to the past: The Fact That It Amazes Me Does Not Mean I Relinquish It by Firelei Báez (2024) and Unmanned Drone (2023) by Kara Walker (on display at MOCA). It will end with brief reflections on teaching the Humanities in the US today.
