Join us for a special screening of About a Hero (2024), followed by a panel discussion about cinema and AI with the film’s producer Sam Pressman (Stanford Film & Media Studies alum, ’11), Jay McClelland (Lucie Stern Professor in the Social Sciences; Professor of Psychology and, by courtesy, of Linguistics and Computer Science), and Shane Denson (Professor of Film & Media Studies and, by courtesy, of German Studies and Communication). The discussion will be moderated by Pavle Levi, Chair of the Department of Art & Art History and Osgood Hooker Professor of Fine Arts.
ABOUT THE FILM
About a Hero is a genre-bending work of experimental cinema. The murder mystery pseudo-documentary has more in common with Tarkovsky, Lynch, and Godard than its inspiration, Werner Herzog. The debut feature of Piotr Winiewicz is sure to elicit contempt and impassioned debate, as we humans contemplate our relationship, and our future, with AI.
