Peter Hujar's Day (Ira Sachs, 2025, 35mm, 76 mins)
Ira Sachs in person! New print! On a winter day in ‘74, photographer Peter Hujar (Ben Wishaw) recounts the meetings, conversations, passing observations, and artistic obsessions that make up his life in downtown New York. Drawn from a recorded conversation with writer Linda Rosenkrantz (Rebecca Hall), Sachs’s intimate two-hander transforms the ordinary rhythms of a single day into a vivid portrait of an artist and his long-gone milieu. “A charming experiment that should delight those who like their pleasures both nostalgic and voyeuristic” (Jeannette Catsoulis). 35mm print made with thanks to Janus Films.
The Treasures from the Yale Film Archive series is presented with support from Paul L. Joskow ‘70 M.Phil., ‘72 Ph.D.
Yale Film Archive screenings are always free and open to the public. See the full film schedule here.
