Westmoreland Reads welcomes Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author Eliza Griswold to campus to discuss her book, Amity and Prosperity: One Family and the Fracturing of America. The event is free and open to the campus community and the public.

Griswold tells the story of the energy boom’s impact on a small town in Washington County (PA). The fracking boom in the early 2000s forced Stacey Haney, a local nurse, to become an unlikely activist as she grappled with the negative changes to her children’s health and the health of the animals on her farm. Griswold based the book on seven years of immersive reporting and reveals what happens when an imperiled town faces a crisis of values, and a family wagers everything on an improbable quest for justice. Westmoreland Reads selected Griswold's book as the 2026 common read. Print and audio copies of the book are available (while supplies last) at no cost, as are chapter-by-chapter reading questions and a discussion guide. Visit the Westmoreland Reads page for details.
