SUNY Oswego, the Office of Sustainability and Rice Creek Field Station, in partnership with the Atlantic States Legal Foundation and funded by the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI), are implementing a multi-site agroforestry project. The initiative includes the planting of approximately 250 fruit-bearing and medicinal trees and shrubs across SUNY Oswego’s campus.
These plantings are designed to support biodiversity, local food access and ecosystem resilience, while also improving stormwater management and contributing to the expansion of the campus’ Centennial Arboretum. In addition to its ecological goals, the project engages students and community members in hands-on sustainability education, building momentum toward campus-wide permaculture practices.
