SALVAGED: NATURE'S READYMADE Exhibition

An art exhibition built on the transformation of matter loses something essential if it can only be seen. The distance between a palm frond left to rot in a gutter and the same frond sealed in tar and resin is, above all, a distance felt in the hand, the difference between something brittle and something that has been given, almost paradoxically, a second skin. For the student visitors who will move through this gallery in groups, many during a single class period and many with no background in art at all, sight alone will not carry that argument.
