The USC-Huntington Early Modern Studies Institute Long 18th Century Seminar will meet with Helen Deutsch, Professor of English at UCLA, and Sophie Gee, Professor of English at Princeton, on January 29, 2027. Professor Deutsch’s research focuses on early modern disability studies, and early modern authors such as Alexander Pope and Jonathan Swift. Professor Gee, in addition to also working on Alexander Pope, examines early modern global anglophone literature and the rise of the British Empire during this period. Together, Professor Deutsch and Professor Gee will host a conversation on new directions in eighteenth century studies.
