Physical AI for Manufacturing on Earth and Beyond
Space is the next frontier of manufacturing. The commercial use of space is driving demand for both manufacturing for space and in-space manufacturing. While offering unprecedented production opportunities in fields such as biotechnology, semiconductors, and optics, both need adaptability to new scenarios and accessibility for non-experts. In-space manufacturing further requires autonomy under resource constraints. This talk discusses a vision that connects manufacturing and space through intelligent manufacturing, extending beyond any particular machine, factory, environment, or resource base while keeping people at its center. It also explores how to scale and sustain manufacturing ecosystems beyond Earth.
The InspireME Series explores topics of interest in Mechanical Engineering for the Boise State community.
