Join us for a Physician-Scientist Lunch & Learn with Dr. Y. Erin Chen, MD-PhD, the Frederick A. and Carole J. Middleton Career Development Professor and Associate Professor of Biology at MIT. Dr. Chen will share her educational and career journey, including how she decided to pursue a combined MD-PhD degree, what it means to balance clinical training with scientific research, and how her work at the intersection of medicine and biology advances our understanding of human health and disease. Students will gain insight into the physician-scientist career path and learn about opportunities in biomedical research, academic medicine, clinical practice, and translational science. This is also a valuable opportunity for students interested in research and clinical exposure. Attendees can learn about potential UROP opportunities in Dr. Chen’s lab and discuss shadowing opportunities to gain firsthand experience in medicine and research. As a member of MIT’s Committee on Prehealth Advising, Dr. Chen can also provide guidance on building strong faculty relationships, securing impactful letters of recommendation, networking with mentors, and navigating the decision between pursuing an MD, PhD, or combined MD-PhD pathway. Students at any stage of their prehealth journey are encouraged to attend.
