ACM Presents: Trust, but Verify: Testing Code in the Age of AI

We spend years learning how to write code. But how do we know it actually works? In the classroom, success often means getting the right answer for a few examples. In industry, code lives in complex, evolving systems where assumptions change, edge cases emerge, and small changes can have unexpected effects. As AI increasingly writes code alongside us, knowing how to verify what we build is becoming even more important. This talk explores how testing helps us build confidence in our code. We’ll go beyond conventional testing to explore techniques such as property-based testing, approval testing, and more. Most importantly, we’ll develop a testing mindset: questioning assumptions, anticipating edge cases, and building reliable, production-ready systems.
