COSINC is hosting a Micrograph Showcase to highlight the interesting, visually compelling, and scientifically meaningful results produced by COSINC users. The showcase will highlight the capabilities of COSINC’s microscopy and micro/nanofabrication facilities.
There will be three competition categories, with one winner selected in each category.
1. Most Stunning
Recognizing a raw micrograph that is exceptionally visually compelling, striking, or aesthetically beautiful. The micrograph should be presented essentially as acquired from the instrument, with only minimal adjustments for display such as cropping, resizing, or basic brightness/contrast adjustments. No compositing, overlays, annotations, or combining multiple images.
2. Most Functional
Recognizing a micrograph that best demonstrates scientific meaning, functionality, or an important research result. Submissions may showcase a functional device, engineered structure, fabrication result, experimental outcome, or other scientifically significant feature.
3. Most Creative
For the micrograph that makes you stop and look twice. This category celebrates fascinating or creative structures and results that spark curiosity and demonstrate an imaginative approach to presenting research. Image editing is encouraged. Participants may use techniques such as colorization, image stacking, overlays, artistic processing, composites, or other creative approaches to transform their micrograph. The underlying micrograph must remain the basis of the submission.
Submission Deadline: Nov. 5
Participants may submit up to three micrographs total, with no more than one submission per category. There will be one winner in each category, for a total of three winners. Each winner will receive a $100 cash prize.
Winners will be announced at the COSINC Networking Event on Nov. 12. Register to attend the event to receive your prize.
